The Society adopted the following aims for its activities:

  • supporting scientific research in the entire scope related to chitin and relevant enzymes, while chitin also includes chitosan and all chitin and chitosan derivatives
  • disseminating the results of these studies
  • encouraging and organizing exchanges between scientists participating in chitin-related research
  • promoting the practical application of the results of scientific research in the field of chitin, chitosan and chitin derivatives
  • development of connections and contacts with other scientific associations, both in the country and abroad, of an analogous or similar nature

Polish Chitin Society:

  • has 69 members representing a wide range of specialties: from polymers and fibers, through agriculture, to pharmacy and medicine,
  • PTChit annually organizes a scientific conference "New aspects on chemistry and application of chitin and its derivatives", which significantly allowed for the integration of the scientific community and showed the importance of Polish science in the world,
  • publishes annually the periodical entitled "Progress on Chemistry and Application of Chitin and Its Derivatives" covering the latest achievements in chitin and chitosan in Poland. Since 2006, the monograph has the ISSN number 1896-5644 and is available in an electronic version,
  • until 2002, PTChit continuously published a periodical entitled "Current information," which was aimed at disseminating and promoting the achievements in the field of chitin and presenting current information on the activities of the Society.

In 2001, at the meeting of the Board of the European Chitin Society in Senigallia (Italy), the PTChit was honored with the right to organize in 2004, in Poznań, the 6th International Conference on Chitin / Chitosan Euchis 04.

The Polish Chitin Society (PTChit) is under the scientific supervision of the Ministry of Education and Science (formerly the Ministry of Science and Higher Education), which financially supports the publishing activity of the Society and co-finances the organization of conferences.
